Deep Depression Near Karachi May Trigger Heavy Rains, Urban Flooding

Karachi:The monsoon system affecting Sindh has intensified into a **deep depression**, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning of **over 100mm of rainfall in Karachi today**.
Speaking on Geo News program *Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath*, PMD spokesperson **Anjum Nazeer** said Karachi is likely to experience **4 to 6 spells of heavy to very heavy rain**, which could result in **urban flooding** in low-lying areas.
He added that it is unusual for a **deep depression from India** to enter Sindh in the month of September, and noted that the current system has a “complex trajectory,” making it harder to predict its exact movement.
Precautionary measures are already being taken in the city. The **Jinnah Sindh Medical University** postponed today’s exams, implementing a **work-from-home policy** and shifting all classes to **online mode**.
Karachi witnessed **intermittent light and moderate showers yesterday**, while the usually dry **Malir River** turned into a flood channel due to heavy inflows.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during downpours, and follow advisories as the weather system passes close to the city.
