Sonu Nigam Credits Career Breakthrough to Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi, Calls Him a True Inspiration

Mumbai: Indian playback legend Sonu Nigam has revealed that his career’s turning point came through the iconic Pakistani singer Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi, expressing deep gratitude for the legendary artist’s encouragement early in his journey.

In an interview with Fareedoon Shehryar, Sonu recalled how his career took off with the song *“Achha Sila Diya Tune Mere Pyar Ka”*, originally sung by Esakhelvi. The track became a nationwide hit in India and gave Sonu his first breakthrough in the music industry.

Sharing a heartfelt memory, Sonu said: *“I was only 19 when I received a call. The person said, ‘Mr. Sonu, this is Attaullah Esakhelvi speaking from Pakistan. I just want to tell you that you sang this song beautifully.’ It was such a kind gesture, and it meant the world to me.”*

Sonu described the moment as one of the most treasured experiences of his life, giving him the motivation to move forward with confidence. Despite a career filled with blockbuster songs such as *“Kal Ho Naa Ho,” “Sandese Aate Hain,” “Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin,”* and *“Suraj Hua Maddham,”* Sonu Nigam still considers his first recognition tied to Esakhelvi’s masterpiece.

*“I will always remain thankful to the legendary singers who paved the way for me. My success belongs to them as well,”* he added.

The acknowledgment not only reflects Sonu Nigam’s humility but also highlights how music continues to bridge borders, connecting artists and audiences beyond national boundaries.
