K-Electric CEO Apologizes to Sindh High Court Over Power Outages After Rainfall

Karachi: Following prolonged power outages in the aftermath of recent rains, K-Electric’s CEO and senior officials appeared before the Sindh High Court and issued an apology. The outages had left judges and senior officers of the court without electricity for extended periods, causing serious inconvenience.
The court had earlier summoned K-Electric’s management after reports that electricity in several areas of Karachi, including residences of judges and officers, remained disrupted for up to two days. Complaints also noted low voltage issues and a lack of response from K-Electric officers assigned to handle emergency situations, many of whom had allegedly switched off their phones.
The High Court emphasized that as a utility service provider, K-Electric is legally bound under NEPRA regulations to ensure uninterrupted power supply and must have a contingency plan for emergencies. The court directed the company to designate a senior panel of officers with full authority to address urgent matters and to establish a direct communication channel with the court’s protocol section.
During the hearing, K-Electric officials assured the court that a new strategy had been formulated to prevent future large-scale breakdowns and faults. They provided updated contact details of relevant officers and confirmed that disciplinary action would be taken against those found negligent.
