Balochistan Food Authority Busts Major Fake Labeling Network of Bottled Water and Beverages

Quetta: The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has exposed a large-scale fake labeling racket of bottled water and beverages during a crackdown at Khizi Chowk, Eastern Bypass.

According to officials, the operation team caught an illegal label-sealing unit red-handed and sealed the facility. Investigations revealed that counterfeit and unregistered labels of mineral water and juice brands were being supplied to various units, which were then used to produce and distribute substandard and unsafe bottled water and juices across Quetta.

Thousands of fake labels and empty plastic bottles of unregistered brands were recovered during the raid. The labels carried misleading nutritional claims, while the unit failed to provide any license, laboratory reports, or legal documents. Inspectors also found crystalline liquid minerals being stored directly under sunlight in violation of health standards.

The unit was immediately sealed, and the confiscated material was taken into custody for further investigation.

Director General BFA, Waqar Khurshid Alam, said that counterfeit labeling of beverages and bottled water is a direct threat to public health, stressing that the authority follows a strict zero-tolerance policy against such practices. He reaffirmed that BFA’s top priority is to ensure safe, standard, and healthy food for citizens.

Director of Operations BFA, Muhammad Riaz Nasir, who supervised the operation, stated that the network producing substandard beverages through fake labeling was operating in an organized manner, but timely action by the BFA exposed it. He added that operational teams remain vigilant against counterfeit and unsafe food products, and strict action will continue against illegal businesses.
