South Africa’s Jorich Van Schalkwyk Sets New Record with First-Ever U-19 Double Century in ODI

Harare:South African Under-19 opener Jorich Van Schalkwyk has etched his name into the history books by becoming the first player to score a double century in the history of Youth One-Day Internationals (ODIs).*

The 18-year-old Van Schalkwyk achieved this remarkable feat on Friday during the opening match of the tri-nation series in Harare, Zimbabwe. Facing Zimbabwe U-19, Van Schalkwyk hammered an astonishing 215 runs off just 153 balls, making him the first player ever to score a double century in Men’s Youth ODI cricket.

His innings included 19 boundaries and 6 sixes, a truly spectacular display of power and technique. Prior to this, the highest individual score in Youth ODI cricket was 191 runs, set by Sri Lanka’s Haseetha Boyagoda in 2018.

Thanks to Van Schalkwyk’s record-breaking knock, the South African team posted a massive total of 385 runs in their allotted 50 overs before being bowled out.

In response, Zimbabwe’s Under-19 team struggled to cope with the onslaught. They were dismissed for just 107 runs in the 25th over, handing South Africa a massive 278-run victory.

This historic performance not only marks a new benchmark in youth cricket but also cements Van Schalkwyk’s place as one of the brightest emerging stars in world cricket.
