Smuggled Vehicles Legalized Through Customs Auction System: Major Scandal Uncovered

Islamabad: A major scandal has been uncovered involving the legalization of smuggled vehicles through the misuse of the Customs Auction System, allegedly facilitated by officials of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Two customs officers have been suspended, and their names have been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
According to Express News, the FBR’s Customs Enforcement Department has launched a nationwide crackdown against those involved in this illegal operation. So far, 13 individuals have been arrested across various cities, and 103 smuggled vehicles have been identified that were illegally registered through forged user IDs and fake auction documentation.
A senior FBR official stated that the crackdown began on the directives of FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial and Member Customs, after reports emerged of smuggled vehicles being legitimized under the guise of auctions. The scam involved registering these vehicles in the system using fake credentials, fabricating auction records, and manipulating official documents.
Given the gravity of the case and the potential involvement of other departments, the FBR has formally requested the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to initiate a criminal investigation. Additionally, the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) comprising representatives from the FIA, Intelligence Bureau (IB), and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has been proposed to fully expose and dismantle the organized network.
Sources suggest the network was also involved in forging auction papers and manipulating government records. More arrests and revelations are expected as the investigation progresses.
The FBR has assured that any government official found complicit will face strict action without discrimination. It has also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities to help protect national revenue and bring offenders to justice.
