Most Parts of the Country in Grip of Intense Heatwave; Hot Weather Likely to Persist Until Thursday

Islamabad – A majority of regions across the country are currently experiencing an intense heatwave, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department issuing warnings about the continuation of extreme weather conditions.
According to the latest forecast, the heatwave is expected to persist through Thursday. During this period, temperatures in upper and central regions—including Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan—are expected to remain 5 to 7°C above normal. Southern areas such as upper and central Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan may see temperatures rising 4 to 6°C above average.
The Met Office has advised the public to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM and to increase water intake to prevent heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses.
On Wednesday and Thursday, hot and dusty winds are expected in most plains, which could further complicate the situation. The forecast indicates extremely high temperatures across Punjab as well, particularly in Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan, where dusty conditions are expected alongside strong winds.
Temperature projections include:
Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal: 44–46°C
Multan, Faisalabad, Lahore, Attock: 45–47°C
Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha, Chakwal, Jhelum: 46–49°C
Current conditions show:
Multan: 46°C with 56% humidity
Dera Ghazi Khan: 46°C with 42% humidity
Sargodha: 47°C with 52% humidity
Lahore: 46°C with 36% humidity
Faisalabad, Attock, Jhelum, and Sahiwal are also expected to witness unusually high temperatures.
In light of the extreme conditions, the Meteorological Department and health experts have urged the public—especially the elderly, children, and those with medical conditions—to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. Outdoor workers are advised to stay in shaded areas and increase intake of water and electrolytes to avoid dehydration and heat-related illnesses.
