Anwar Maqsood Reveals Grandchildren Call Him by His Name

Karachi: Renowned Pakistani writer, playwright, and satirist Anwar Maqsood made an amusing revelation during a recent TV program, stating that his grandchildren call him by his first name.
Speaking as a guest on a show where he discussed family, criticism, and social behavior, Anwar Maqsood shared, “My grandchildren are extremely friendly with me.”
With a smile, he added, “When I’m alone with them, they call me ‘Anwar’. When I ask why they don’t call me Nana, they quickly respond, ‘Why do you call us by our first names then?’” This witty exchange sparked laughter among the audience.
On the topic of criticism, Maqsood stated that critique is only meaningful when it comes from someone knowledgeable and experienced in the relevant field. “If it comes from someone who knows nothing about the subject, it usually stems from jealousy of your success,” he said.
Offering a humorous take on societal attitudes, Maqsood commented, “Pakistani men are very weak. Just look at the walls around you—they’re covered with ads for male strength. You’ll never see an ad about a woman’s strength.” His remark drew hearty laughter from the crowd.
