Former Caretaker Federal Minister Dr. Gohar Ejaz Presents Budget Proposals to Government

Former Caretaker Federal Minister and Chairman of the Economic Policy Think Tank, Dr. Gohar Ejaz, has presented a set of budget proposals to the federal government, emphasizing the need for long-term industrial growth and strategic economic policies.

In his proposals, Dr. Ejaz highlighted the importance of prioritizing industrialization and exports for the country’s economic stability. He suggested that a permanent 5-year industrial and export policy be implemented to ensure consistency and progress in these sectors.

Dr. Ejaz also proposed lowering the interest rate to 6% and setting energy rates for industries at 9 cents per unit, aiming to reduce production costs and boost industrial competitiveness.

For salaried individuals, he recommended capping the maximum tax rate at 20%, which would provide relief to middle-income earners. Additionally, he suggested that the super tax be imposed only on corporations with profits exceeding Rs. 10 billion, helping to ease the financial burden on smaller businesses.

The former minister also pointed out that withholding tax on property buyers who are tax filers is discouraging homeownership and real estate investment. He proposed the removal of this tax to encourage property transactions.

Furthermore, Dr. Ejaz stressed the need for modernizing the agriculture sector and improving productivity to ensure food security and enhance export potential.

These comprehensive recommendations aim to revitalize key sectors of Pakistan’s economy and promote sustainable growth.

### Will the government take these proposals into account to shape the upcoming budget?
