Government Notification Increases Electricity Tariffs, Reaches Up to Rs. 48.84 per Unit

Islamabad:The government has issued a notification to raise electricity tariffs nationwide, affecting consumers in Karachi and across the country. The Power Division has announced an increase in the basic unit cost of electricity, primarily impacting domestic consumers.
For households consuming up to 200 units per month, an additional charge of Rs. 7.12 per unit has been implemented. However, these consumers are exempted from this increase for the next three months. For other domestic consumers, the basic unit tariff has been raised, resulting in a maximum charge of Rs. 48.84 per unit.
Breakdown of New Tariffs:
201 to 300 units: Rs. 34.26 per unit (an increase of Rs. 7.12)
301 to 400 units: Rs. 39.15 per unit (an increase of Rs. 7.02)
Over 700 units: Rs. 48.84 per unit (an increase of Rs. 6.12)
Additionally, for consumption tiers:
401 to 500 units: Rs. 41.36 per unit (an increase of Rs. 6.12)
501 to 600 units: Rs. 42.78 per unit (an increase of Rs. 6.12)
601 to 700 units: Rs. 43.92 per unit (an increase of Rs. 6.12)
Consumers in the lifeline category, using up to 50 units monthly, will continue to pay Rs. 3.95 per unit, while those using between 51 to 100 units will pay Rs. 7.74 per unit.
The government has attributed this tariff adjustment to rising costs in the power sector. It is advised that consumers manage their electricity usage efficiently in light of these revised rates.
