Chief Election Commissioner Should Resign Immediately After Decisions on Special Seats: Hafiz Naheem

Lahore: Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naheem Rahman, has demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner following decisions on special seats. In a statement, he said that Jamaat-e-Islami is protesting nationwide today against decisions regarding special seats. “Protests will be held in all major and minor cities,” he added.
Amir Jamaat-e-Islami stated that a nationwide protest against the unjust and oppressive taxes in the electricity tariff is scheduled for July 26 in Islamabad. “We will not withdraw our demands until they are accepted. Our movement is against the anti-people budget. The government must provide relief to the public from exorbitant electricity bills and oppressive load shedding,” he emphasized.
Hafiz Naheem Rahman further stated that IPPs should be exposed, asserting the public’s right under the Right to Information to bring all contracts before them. “We are launching a movement ‘Give People Their Right’ against actions that are anti-people. We will take to the streets for public rights and also approach the courts,” he added.
They further said that they welcome the Supreme Court’s decision on special seats and suggested forming a judicial commission under Article 45 to decide on every seat. “After the court’s decision, the Election Commission has no moral standing left. The Chief Election Commissioner should resign immediately,” he demanded. “Parties alleging electoral fraud should take special seats. The Supreme Court’s decision should not be partially but fully accepted,” he concluded.
