Did Urwa Hocane Subtly Target Hania Aamir in Her Post About “Dignity”?

Islamabad: Amid rising tensions between Pakistan and India, the impact of geopolitical discord has spilled onto social media, sparking heated debates and speculation. Recently, Pakistani actress Urwa Hocane shared an Instagram story highlighting the importance of “dignity” and “national pride,” which many believe was a veiled reference to fellow actress Hania Aamir.
Although Urwa refrained from naming anyone directly, her words hinted at criticism toward Hania Aamir, who had earlier thanked her Indian fans for using VPNs to access her Instagram account after it was blocked in India.
In her Instagram story, Urwa wrote:
“Propaganda is a weapon used in warfare, and unfortunately, we’ve been its victims for decades. In times of conflict, one must uphold their dignity and stand with their nation.”
She added, “Taking care of your own home should be the top priority.”
The post quickly went viral on social media, with users speculating that it was directed at Hania Aamir. Many saw it as a subtle dig at Hania’s appreciation for her Indian fanbase, especially in light of the broader political climate.
Urwa later clarified her stance in a video message, shedding more light on the concept of national dignity and the challenges faced by Pakistani artists after the recent incident in Pahalgam. However, she again avoided naming any individual artists.
Meanwhile, Hania Aamir’s interaction with Indian fans also drew media attention. She expressed gratitude to those who continued to follow her content using VPNs. One Indian fan wrote, “Hello Hania, I got a VPN just for you, love from India,” to which Hania replied, “Love to you too.” Another commented, “We’ll watch your posts even from Mars,” prompting Hania to respond, “That’s so sweet.”
Following the Instagram ban in India, there has been a noticeable drop in likes and comments on Hania’s posts, which once garnered millions of reactions. This decline is affecting not just Hania but several other Pakistani celebrities as well.
The controversy intensified when India blocked not only Pakistani celebrities but also the social media accounts of key government figures, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and DG ISPR. Later, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar’s account was also blocked in India, prompting strong reactions from the Pakistani government and public.
Urwa’s statement has sparked a broader debate on social media about national pride versus global reach, with many questioning where the line should be drawn between patriotism and fan engagement across borders.
