U.S. to Engage Pakistan and India Amid Rising Tensions Following Kashmir Incident: State Department

Washington: The U.S. State Department has announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will speak with his counterparts in Pakistan and India in light of the growing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors following a recent incident in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir.
A State Department spokesperson stated that the Secretary of State would soon initiate diplomatic engagement with both countries to address the situation, which has escalated after the attack in Pahalgam.
“The recent incident in Jammu and Kashmir has increased tensions between the two countries,” the spokesperson noted.
It is important to mention that U.S. President Donald Trump, when questioned by reporters about the Pahalgam incident, referred to Kashmir as a conflict dating back “a thousand or fifteen hundred years,” a remark that was widely interpreted as highlighting his lack of understanding regarding the core issue between Pakistan and India.
President Trump avoided directly answering a question about playing a mediating role, but expressed optimism by saying he knows the leadership of both nations and hopes for a peaceful resolution.
