Afghanistan’s Historic Victory Over England Boosts Confidence for Upcoming Matches

Afghanistan’s cricket team captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, expressed immense pride after their historic win against England, stating that the victory had made both the team and every Afghan fan ecstatic. He noted that the team had shown significant improvement over the past two years.
On Wednesday, Afghanistan defeated England by 8 runs in a crucial Group B match, knocking them out of the Champions Trophy. In the match played in Lahore, Afghanistan batted first, scoring 325 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. England, chasing a target of 326, was all out for 317 runs in the final over.
Speaking after the match, Hashmatullah Shahidi said that he was delighted with the win and described Ibrahim Zadran’s remarkable 177-run innings as one of the best in One-Day International (ODI) history.
Shahidi further added, “As a team, we are happy, and our nation will also be celebrating this victory. We are moving forward to the next match. We defeated England for the first time in 2023, and we are improving day by day.”
He acknowledged the pressure of the match but praised the team’s ability to handle it well, stating that the win would provide great confidence for their upcoming match against Australia. “I am happy with the result, and our win against England will boost our confidence for the match against Australia,” said Shahidi.
The Afghanistan cricket captain concluded by expressing hope that they would maintain their winning momentum in the match against Australia. The winner of this upcoming match will secure a spot in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy.
