WhatsApp to Discontinue Support for Older Android Phones Starting January 2025
Islamabad:In a major update, WhatsApp has announced that starting **January 2025**, it will no longer support devices running on **Android 4.4** or earlier operating systems. This means that many older smartphones, particularly those released around 2014, will no longer be able to use the popular messaging app.
According to WhatsApp’s notification, several **Samsung models**, including **Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, and Galaxy S4 Mini**, will no longer be able to run WhatsApp from **January 1, 2025**. Additionally, phones like **HTC One X, Motorola Moto G, Razer HD**, and **LG Optimus G** will also lose WhatsApp support. Similarly, **Sony Xperia Z**, **Xperia SP**, and several other Sony models are included in the list of phones that will no longer be compatible with the app.
WhatsApp has urged users with these devices to transfer their **WhatsApp data**—including chats and media files—to a new device before the deadline. After January 2025, all data on these devices will be deleted.
This change comes as part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance security and performance, which necessitates dropping support for outdated operating systems. Users are advised to upgrade their phones or switch to more recent models to continue using WhatsApp without disruption.
