Digital Pakistan Bill to be Presented in National Assembly Today
National Digital Commission to be Established, Digital Authority to be Formed under the Bill
Islamabad: The government will present the Digital Pakistan Bill in the National Assembly today. Once approved, the bill will lead to the establishment of the National Digital Commission and the formation of a Digital Authority.
According to Express News, the bill will be presented by the Minister of State for IT, Shiza Fatima. IT officials stated that the primary objective of the Digital Pakistan Bill is to link land records, health cards, birth certificates, national identity cards, and other important documents into a unified system. This would involve consolidating data from all government institutions across the country into a single platform, allowing easy access to an individual’s ID, assets, and life details in one place.
Under the bill, the National Digital Commission will be created, with the Prime Minister as its head. The commission will include the Chief Ministers of all four provinces, relevant ministers, and heads of key institutions like the State Bank, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and NADRA.
Speaking at the National Broadband Network Forum, the Minister of State confirmed that the bill will be presented in the assembly today. She also emphasized that the National Digital Commission, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, will create a 5-year roadmap. The bill is expected to be approved soon, after which the commission will be formally established.
The Minister expressed hope that the opposition would support the Digital Pakistan Bill, and added that a Digital Authority will be set up under the commission’s supervision.
The initiative is seen as a significant step toward digitizing various government services and creating a more streamlined and accessible system for the citizens of Pakistan.
