Babar Azam Set to Break Shahid Afridi’s Record for Most Sixes in T20Is
Lahore: Pakistan’s former captain, Babar Azam, has the opportunity to break Shahid Afridi’s record for the most sixes in T20 internationals during the second T20I against South Africa in Centurion.
Currently, Afridi holds the 4th spot on the list of Pakistani players with the most sixes in T20Is, having hit 73 sixes in 90 innings. Babar, with 72 sixes in 120 innings, is poised to surpass him and move into the top five.
In the list of the top six hitters in T20Is for Pakistan, Mohammad Rizwan leads with 95 sixes in 92 innings, followed by Fakhar Zaman with 76 sixes in 84 innings, and Mohammad Hafeez, who has also hit 76 sixes but in 108 innings.
Babar Azam also has a chance to equal another significant record. He is on the verge of matching Inzamam-ul-Haq’s tally of the second-most fifties by a Pakistani batter against South Africa.
Currently, Mohammad Yousuf holds the record with 14 fifties in 47 innings against the Proteas. Inzamam follows with 12 fifties in 59 innings, while Babar Azam has already scored 11 fifties in just 33 innings, the fewest for any Pakistani batter in this category.
If Babar continues his fine form, he could break or equal these milestones, further cementing his place as one of the modern greats of Pakistani cricket.
