Babar Azam Under Fire After Another T20 World Cup Setback Against India

Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam is facing renewed criticism following a string of underwhelming performances, with fresh statistics highlighting a concerning trend in T20 World Cup matches.
After Pakistan’s 61-run defeat to India in Colombo, scrutiny of the national team has intensified. Critics and former players have questioned Babar’s form, with some even suggesting he should be dropped from the side. According to cricket analyst Mazhar Arshad, Babar has not hit a single six in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against any Full Member team since his match against India in Dubai in 2021.
In the high-stakes clash, India national cricket team posted 175 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Pakistan national cricket team struggled under pressure and were bowled out for 114 in 18 overs, falling short by 61 runs.
Pakistan’s batting collapse once again exposed vulnerabilities in the top order. Seven batters failed to reach double figures. Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed without scoring, Saim Ayub managed just six runs, while captain Salman Agha scored four. Babar Azam also failed to make an impact, scoring only five runs before being dismissed.
Chasing a competitive target of 176, Pakistan never recovered from the early blows. The latest defeat has not only dented their campaign but also intensified debate over team selection, leadership, and overall strategy in global tournaments.
