Shahzad Questions Captain’s Strategy After Pakistan’s Defeat in First T20
Defensive Approach Blamed for Loss; Shahzad Criticizes Decision to Give Last Over to Young Spinner
Lahore: Pakistan’s opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad expressed disappointment and raised questions about the team’s strategy following their loss to South Africa in the first T20 match. In a tweet on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Shehzad stated that Pakistan had a great opportunity to limit South Africa to around 150 runs, but the team’s defensive approach allowed the Proteas to post a total exceeding 180 runs.
He also criticized the decision of captain Mohammad Rizwan to give the final over of the innings to young spinner Sufiyan Maqeem, especially in a pressure situation. Shehzad pointed out that the move put the young bowler under unnecessary stress, which contributed to the team’s downfall.
The two teams will meet again for the second T20 on Friday in Centurion.
