Indian Professional Quits High-Paying Job Without Backup Plan for a Break
NEW DELHI (Qudrat Daily) – In a bold and unconventional move, Indian professional Varun Haseja decided to leave his high-paying job in product management, where he was earning over ₹1 crore annually, without any job offer or backup plan. He described this decision as “the toughest decision” of his life, explaining that he needed a real break, something he had never taken in his decade-long career.
In a post on Twitter, Varun explained that his decision was not an emotional one, but rather the result of a framework he had followed throughout his career. He shared that when making decisions about work opportunities, he considers three key factors. The first of these is **happiness**. “If your workplace does not provide comfort, excitement, or happiness, is it worth it? For me, happiness at work is essential. Without it, I can’t do anything,” he said.
The second important factor for Varun is **impact**. He explained, “The work I do should have some impact—whether it’s for customers, the business, or both. I can happily spend hours solving a problem for a business client. The impact of my work drives me forward.”
The third factor he considers is **wealth creation**. “If I am helping a company make money, I should also have opportunities to create wealth for myself,” Varun added. He acknowledged that it’s rare to find a role that satisfies all three criteria at once.
Despite earning a substantial salary of over ₹1 crore annually, Varun felt that the elements of happiness and impact were missing from his life. This led him to make the difficult decision to leave his job and take a break, without securing another job first.
Varun’s story has resonated with many, highlighting the importance of finding meaning and joy in work, and the courage it takes to step away from financial success in pursuit of personal fulfillment.
