Family Still Denied Meeting with Noreen Niazi After 48 Hours, Claims Journalist Shakir Mehmood Awan

LAHORE: Journalist Shakir Mehmood Awan has expressed concern over the reported denial of family visits to Noreen Niazi, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, saying that she has been at a cardiology hospital for the past 48 hours but her daughter, granddaughter and other family members have not been allowed to meet her.
In a post on social media platform X, Shakir Mehmood Awan criticised the situation, describing it as an extreme display of insensitivity. He said it was regrettable that even while Noreen Niazi was receiving treatment in hospital, her family was not being given an opportunity to meet her or inquire about her health.
Referring to a previous incident, the journalist said it was the same hospital, the same month and the same cardiology ward where former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had received treatment. At that time, he recalled, Maryam Nawaz had been specially brought from jail to the hospital to meet her father.
He questioned why Noreen Niazi’s family was not being allowed the same facility, when a special arrangement had previously been made for the family of a political leader.
Shakir Mehmood Awan called for Noreen Niazi’s family to be allowed to meet her so that they could inquire about her condition and provide family support.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has also expressed strong anger over the reported circumstances surrounding Noreen Niazi’s sudden illness and subsequent transfer to hospital.
In statements issued by the party spokesperson and legal team, PTI alleged that the government and administration were disregarding basic human and ethical values.
According to the party, Noreen Niazi suffered a sudden and serious cardiac problem and was immediately shifted to hospital for medical treatment. However, PTI claimed that after her arrival, police took strict measures, locked the entrances outside the intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital ward, and sealed the area.
The party further alleged that her family members were not being allowed to meet her and that no verified or satisfactory information about her health was being provided.
PTI described the reported restrictions as inhumane treatment and claimed that Imran Khan’s sisters, who are not directly involved in politics, had already been kept in custody for an extended period without any substantial offence being established.
The party maintained that denying family members access to Noreen Niazi even while she was hospitalised was deeply concerning and called for an end to the restrictions.
The allegations and claims regarding restrictions on family visits and access to medical information were attributed to the journalist and PTI.
