Hamid Mir Mocks Legislation Granting Lifetime Blue Passports to Parliamentarians

ISLAMABAD (Qudrat Daily) — Prominent journalist and analyst Hamid Mir has made a sarcastic comment on the new legislation approved regarding the facility of lifetime blue passports for members of parliament.
According to details, parliament has given legal approval for members to obtain lifetime blue passports. The Senate also unanimously approved the Passports Amendment Bill 2026, under which all current members of parliament will be able to benefit from this facility for life, even after they cease to be members. Through this special passport, members will be able to enter more than 70 countries around the world without a visa.
In a post on the social media platform X, renowned journalist Hamid Mir congratulated the members of parliament on this “great legislation” with extremely sharp and bitter sarcasm. He wrote that this facility will be of great use to all those friends who are currently sitting on government and official benches, but power does not always remain the same, and after a short while, they will no longer be in government.

Referring to the old and bitter tradition of Pakistani politics, the senior analyst said that after being out of power, these politicians traditionally become targets of political revenge. In such a situation, this lifetime blue passport will fully help them flee from Pakistan and seek refuge outside the country.
Hamid Mir’s comment has once again revived the long-standing debate that on one hand, ordinary citizens of the country are suffering severe difficulties due to inflation, travel restrictions, and obtaining visas, and are forced to stand in long queues to obtain passports, while on the other hand, the country’s legislators are passing such special concessionary laws for their own convenience. In this era of serious economic challenges and public difficulties facing the country, the legislation by members of parliament of facilities for themselves such as lifetime international travel concessions and blue passports is contrary to public sentiment.
