Punjab Government to Provide 100,000 Electric Bikes to Youth This Year: Maryam Nawaz

SAHIWAL: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that the provincial government will provide 100,000 electric bikes to young people this year despite budgetary constraints and limited financial resources.
Addressing a laptop distribution ceremony at the University of Sahiwal, the chief minister said financial difficulties had been among the reasons behind the challenges in launching the initiative. However, she maintained that the government remained committed to fulfilling its promises to the youth.
Maryam Nawaz said the federal government had taken funds from Punjab this year, and she had handed over the money despite the province’s financial pressures. “How could I refuse?” she said, explaining why the government would continue its youth-focused initiatives despite limited resources.
Referring to the response to the electric bike scheme, she said a large number of young people had registered after applications were invited for the provision of 100,000 bikes.
“The Punjab treasury belongs to the people, and I have opened its doors for my sons and daughters,” she said.
The chief minister said the initiative would provide young people with better transportation facilities and help create opportunities for them. She reiterated that financial challenges would not prevent the provincial government from pursuing public welfare projects.
Maryam Nawaz also emphasised that the provincial government’s resources would continue to be utilised for the welfare and development of the people, particularly the younger generation.
CM Travels by Road to Keep Promise to Students
The chief minister also explained why she travelled to Sahiwal by road despite initially planning to arrive by helicopter.
She said her helicopter flight had been cancelled because of rain in Lahore that morning. Consequently, she decided to travel by road to ensure that the students would not be left waiting for her.
Maryam Nawaz said she had made a commitment to the children and did not want them to be disappointed by her absence.
She added that keeping promises made to young people was important and that she was determined to fulfil her commitments despite unexpected difficulties.
