Imposition of Emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Is Tantamount to Strangling Democracy; Where Are Those Who Chanted “Respect the Vote” Now? Mir Younus Aziz Zehri

Quetta (Daily Qudrat Quetta) — During a session of the Balochistan Provincial Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Mir Younus Aziz Zehri, while strongly opposing the imposition of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on behalf of the opposition parties, termed the move tantamount to strangling democracy. Expressing his views in the House, Opposition Leader Mir Younus Aziz Zehri said that he and the opposition parties have thousands of political differences with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), but unconstitutionally removing an elected government is by no means a democratic method.
Mir Younus Aziz Zehri, expressing severe anger, raised the question: where has the claim of those who claim to respect the vote now gone? He demanded that the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa be immediately restored and allowed to run the government through democratic means. He asked the rulers whether there is any guarantee that the imposition of this emergency will establish peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Strangling a democratic government is by no means a good omen for democracy and the country’s political survival.
Drawing a historical comparison, the Opposition Leader said that if democratic governments also start taking actions like dictators, then who should be blamed? He recalled that Pervez Musharraf struck on October 12, and now this emergency has also been imposed on October 11, which repeats the date of the attack on democracy. He said that on behalf of his party and the entire opposition, he strongly condemns this unconstitutional act. Mir Younus Aziz Zehri warned that the country is already passing through an extremely delicate period, and actions of this nature will push the country further back democratically and economically.
