Governor’s Rule in KP May Continue Until Elections If Necessary: Ikhtiar Wali

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Ikhtiar Wali has said that Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will remain in force for as long as necessary and could continue until the next general elections if required.
Speaking on ARY News during a discussion on the administrative situation in the province, Wali stressed that the general elections would be held on schedule and that Governor’s Rule would not create any obstacles to the electoral process.
He said the provincial assembly had already been inactive even before the imposition of the emergency, adding that the chief minister and other provincial lawmakers were technically suspended.
Commenting on former chief minister Sohail Afridi, Wali said he was currently in protective custody and had voluntarily surrendered himself to the authorities.
The prime minister’s special assistant added that an across-the-board accountability process would now begin in the province and that legal action would be taken in accordance with the law.
Expressing concern over the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Wali claimed that the province’s administrative system had been severely affected and that conditions in some districts had deteriorated considerably.
He rejected allegations that the federal government had political motives behind its actions in the province, maintaining that its primary objectives were to restore peace and order and revive development activities.
Wali’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions over the imposition of Governor’s Rule and the future of the provincial administration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
