Islamabad Police Has Held Over 1,000 of Our Vehicles and Containers for Two Weeks, Says Owais Chaudhry

Islamabad: Tensions have intensified between the All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association and Islamabad Police over the alleged detention of trucks and containers being used for security blockades in the federal capital amid preparations for a possible long march and political protests.

Speaking on senior anchorperson Nadeem Malik’s programme, All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association President Muhammad Owais Chaudhry alleged that Islamabad Police had been holding more than 1,000 vehicles and containers belonging to transporters for the past two weeks.

He said several of the detained containers were carrying valuable goods, raising concerns among their owners over potential losses.

Owais Chaudhry also questioned reports that the government had allocated Rs400 million for vehicle rental charges. “Where has this money gone?” he asked, claiming that transporters and drivers had not been paid any compensation.

He further alleged that drivers stranded on the roads did not even have access to drinking water.

Meanwhile, Islamabad Inspector General of Police Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry met a delegation of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance. DIG Headquarters Muhammad Jawad Tariq was also present during the meeting.

According to a federal police spokesperson, the Islamabad IGP directed officials to immediately return containers carrying medicines, food items and perishable goods to their owners.

The IGP also directed that appropriate rental payments for all containers and vehicles being used for maintaining law and order and security purposes should be paid to transporters without delay.
