Rain and Snowfall Forecast as Western Weather System Enters Pakistan

Islamabad:The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the entry of a western weather system into the country, bringing the prospect of rain and snowfall to several regions.

According to the PMD, cold weather with partly cloudy skies is expected in Islamabad today, while Murree, the Galiyat and surrounding areas are likely to remain dry and cold. Dense fog is expected in Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Jhelum, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kasur, Khanewal, Khanpur, Kot Addu, Layyah and Bhakkar.

In Balochistan, most districts are expected to experience cold weather with partly cloudy conditions, while fog has been forecast in Sukkur, Rohri, Shikarpur, Kashmore and Mohenjo Daro. Fog is also likely at isolated places in Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera and Dera Ismail Khan. Partly cloudy weather is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the PMD has issued a weather advisory, stating that rainfall is expected in western and upper parts of the country from December 20 to 22. The western weather system is likely to enter Balochistan on December 19, bringing rain and snowfall to Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Heavy rain has also been forecast for Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Snowfall is expected in upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while Peshawar may see colder conditions along with rain. The PMD has warned of possible landslides, road closures and slippery conditions in hilly areas.

A spokesperson for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that rain and snowfall are expected in most districts of Punjab. Snowfall is likely in the hilly areas of Punjab on December 20 and 21, while rain and snowfall are expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, the Galiyat and the Potohar region. Rain is also forecast for Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot and Jhang, with Toba Tek Singh likely to receive rain on December 20 and 21.
