‘Brotherhood’ Has Failed to Reach Any Deal with Imran Khan, Claims Hafizullah Niazi
LAHORE: Renowned columnist and political analyst Hafizullah Niazi has claimed that the country’s hybrid political system and its key players have already reached the end of their effective tenure, amid the ongoing constitutional and political crisis.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Niazi commented on the arrests of the remaining sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and the prevailing political situation in the country.
He questioned whether the country had reached a critical point, saying that frustration had gripped the country’s powerful establishment. He added that the “intoxication of power and arrogance” had become a major obstacle to recognizing reality.
Niazi also questioned whether someone within the establishment had undermined the foundations of its power from inside. Referring to what he described as the “script” for a project involving the creation of new provinces, he compared it with the events of March 13, 2007, when then-President General Pervez Musharraf faced a major confrontation over the suspension of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
The analyst claimed that the state was now caught between competing political interests and the establishment’s attempts to manage political alliances and opposition.

He said Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Asif Ali Zardari were pursuing their respective political interests, while Imran Khan, despite being in prison, had put his political opponents under pressure.
Niazi further claimed that the “brotherhood” had completely failed to reach any agreement with Imran Khan.
Describing the state as being trapped in a “quagmire,” Niazi alleged that someone close to the power structure had pushed it deeper into the crisis, making it difficult to find a way out.
He also claimed that individuals allegedly acting as establishment intermediaries within political parties would lose their influence and relevance in the coming days.
Niazi concluded by asserting that what he described as the country’s “hybrid system” had already collapsed ahead of schedule.
