Maryam Nawaz Should Think According to Her Political Standing, Najam Sethi Advises
LAHORE: Senior journalist and political analyst Najam Sethi has advised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to think and make political decisions according to her political standing, while commenting on her political strategy and style of governance. His remarks were reported on September 19, 2026.
Speaking on his programme, Sethi said Maryam Nawaz now needed to learn politics because she was no longer in opposition, where daily confrontations and verbal clashes could continue. He said that if the Punjab government were delivering such strong results that people perceived “rivers of milk and honey” flowing across the province, they would pay less attention to its shortcomings or controversial issues.
Sethi said the situation would be different if Maryam Nawaz were as popular as PTI founder Imran Khan and could make statements that people accepted without question. He argued that, in her case, allegations or claims made about her were readily believed by people and referred to the recurring political criticism describing her as a “Form 47” beneficiary. He advised her to keep her political reality and standing in mind while making decisions.

The analyst also called for greater self-accountability from Maryam Nawaz while discussing criticism of her government by journalists, including himself.
He pointed out that some journalists who were once considered very close to Maryam Nawaz were now openly criticising her. Sethi said she should calmly consider why their positions had changed. If their intentions had allegedly been negative from the beginning, he questioned why she had selected them herself and brought them into her close circle.
Sethi’s comments come amid renewed political debate surrounding the Punjab chief minister, including criticism and defence of her recent use of the Punjab government’s official aircraft for a private London visit.
