10 Militants Killed, Six Soldiers Martyred in KP Operations: ISPR

RAWALPINDI:Security forces killed 10 militants in separate engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between September 15 and 17, while six Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack on a security forces convoy, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

According to the military’s media wing, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan District following reports about the presence of militants in the area.

During the operation, troops engaged the militants’ position, resulting in the killing of six militants after an intense exchange of fire, the ISPR said. ([Dawn][1])

In a separate encounter in Hangu District, security forces killed four more militants, taking the total number of militants killed in the reported engagements to 10.

The ISPR said weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the militants killed during the operations. According to the military, the militants had been actively involved in several terrorist activities in the area. ([The Express Tribune][2])

Meanwhile, on September 17, an IED targeted a security forces convoy, resulting in the martyrdom of six soldiers, according to the ISPR.

The military said sanitisation and clearance operations were continuing in the area to eliminate any remaining militants.

The ISPR said the sacrifices of the soldiers further strengthened the resolve of the security forces to protect the country and ensure its security. ([Geo News][3])

The ISPR refers to the militants as members of “Fitna al-Khawarij”, a term used by the Pakistani state for the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The military’s characterisation of the group as Indian-sponsored is an official Pakistani claim. ([Dawn][1])
