Lahore – A decision has been made to take strict action against smoke-emitting private vehicles in Punjab to curb smog and control air pollution. Vehicle owners have been given until October 15, 2026, to get their vehicles inspected and take necessary measures.
Secretary of the Punjab Transport Authority, Hassan Ahsan, has announced that from October 15, indiscriminate legal action will begin against all private vehicles emitting smoke. The purpose of this measure is to reduce the potential effects of smog and take effective action against vehicles spreading environmental pollution on the roads.
Speaking at a press conference regarding the smog situation and advance preparations, the Secretary of Transport said that the Transport Department, the Environmental Protection Agency, and other relevant departments are taking joint measures. According to him, last year too, clear improvement in the smog situation was seen through mutual cooperation among various institutions.
According to officials, an 18 percent increase has been recorded in the issuance of fitness certificates for commercial vehicles, while according to Excise Department records, 24 million vehicles have so far been registered in Punjab.
Special stickers will also be issued for vehicles by the Transport Department, which will be valid for one year. This measure will help further streamline vehicle fitness and related procedures.
According to Hassan Ahsan, Traffic Police will also be present in the field during the action against vehicles emitting excessive smoke and will support relevant institutions in law enforcement operations.
Therefore, it is necessary for vehicle owners to resolve their vehicles’ fitness and smoke emission issues before the deadline of October 15 so they can avoid legal action during the crackdown.
