NADRA Confirms Digital ID Card Equal to Physical ID

Karachi: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified that digital ID cards are legally equivalent to physical ID cards.

According to a NADRA spokesperson, some government offices and institutions are still demanding physical ID cards or photocopies instead of accepting digital IDs, which violates existing legal and regulatory frameworks.

The spokesperson stated that under the NADRA Ordinance, digital ID regulations have been established. Regulations 9 and 10 grant legal validity to digital identity documents, recognizing them as proper proof of identification.

Digital ID cards reduce the need for unnecessary photocopies of physical IDs, help protect citizens’ personal data, and prevent misuse of identity information, the spokesperson added.

NADRA has directed all government departments, public and financial institutions, and telecom operators to comply with these regulations. Citizens can register complaints through NADRA’s official complaint system if needed.
