Rising Petrol Prices Not Just a Result of Global Conditions but Also Government Incompetence: Shahid Afridi

Islamabad – Former national cricketer Shahid Afridi has said that the continuous increase in petrol prices is not merely a result of global conditions, but government incompetence is also a major reason.

In a reaction on X regarding the continuously rising prices of petroleum products, he said that the persistent increase in petrol prices is not just the result of global conditions — government incompetence is also a major cause. When tax collection targets are not met, the entire burden is placed on the poor, and heavy taxes are levied on petrol to extract money. Inflation has made it difficult for the common man to earn even two square meals a day. He urged the authorities to create relief for the public, as they are already suffering.

It is worth recalling that OGRA had also announced a major increase in petroleum product prices the previous day. According to the notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol was increased by Rs 5.02 and diesel by Rs 5.28 per litre. The new price of petrol has been set at Rs 375.82 and diesel at Rs 403.32.
