Government Imposing 30% Levy on Petroleum Products, Says Miftah Ismail

KARACHI:Former finance minister Miftah Ismail has said that the government is imposing a 30 percent levy on petroleum products.
Miftah Ismail said that while the general sales tax (GST) on products other than petroleum items is 18 percent, the government is imposing a 30 percent levy on petroleum products.
He said the government could ask the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to allow the levy on petroleum products to be reduced to 18 percent.
“If the government cannot find Rs30 billion out of a budget of Rs30,000 billion, it can only be described as a failure of the government,” he said.
