Former Cricketer Javed Miandad Speaks in Support of PTI Founder Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad has spoken in support of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, describing him as an honest person.

In a statement, Miandad said, “I know that Imran Khan is an honest man. He is not someone who takes money or engages in corruption; otherwise, he could have done a lot.”

He questioned the continued imprisonment of Imran Khan, asking what difference it would make if the former prime minister were released.

“Someone should explain to me what difference it would make if Imran Khan were released from prison. Would he eat up Pakistan?” Miandad remarked.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged a formal complaint with Sky Sports over the broadcast of an interview with Imran Khan’s sons, Qasim Khan and Sulaiman Khan, during coverage of the first day of the Lord’s Test.

According to the British newspaper The Guardian, the controversy surrounding the interview reportedly led to tensions within the Pakistan team, with players under Babar Azam’s leadership even threatening not to return to the field after the lunch break.

During their interview with Sky Sports journalist Michael Atherton, Imran Khan’s sons expressed concern over what they described as the Pakistani government’s treatment of their father.

They also made serious allegations that the government wanted to keep Imran Khan in prison to silence him and claimed that attempts were being made to harm him.

Imran Khan has been imprisoned for around three years. Several prominent former international cricketers have previously called for adequate medical facilities and appropriate treatment for him, including Michael Atherton and 20 other former cricketers.
