‘These Are Political Decisions, Not Written Rules’: Azam Nazeer Tarar Defends Iftikhar Gilani’s Nomination
ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has responded to political questions and criticism surrounding the nomination of Barrister Syed Iftikhar Ali Gilani, who lost the general elections, for the position of Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
During a media interaction, the minister was asked why the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was seeking to make someone prime minister whom voters had rejected by not electing him in the general elections.
Responding to the question, Tarar said such matters were part of political strategy and were not governed by any fixed “written rules.”

“These are political decisions; there are no written rules,” Tarar said, adding that the party’s political team could provide a more detailed response to the question.
Speaking from a legal perspective, the federal minister said there would be no legal objection to the nomination if the Constitution of Azad Jammu and Kashmir did not prevent a technocrat or a member elected on a reserved seat from becoming prime minister.
