Mustafa Kamal’s Call for Devolution Is a Joke While He Heads a Provincial Department: Sindh Govt Spokesperson

KARACHI: Sindh government spokesperson Saadia Javed has strongly criticised Mustafa Kamal’s call for devolution, saying it was ironic for him to advocate the transfer of powers while heading a ministry that primarily concerns provincial affairs.

Reacting to Mustafa Kamal’s remarks on devolution, Saadia Javed said that those demanding devolution should first examine their own ministries and positions.

“Talking about devolution while occupying a provincial department is nothing but a joke,” she said, adding that Mustafa Kamal’s slogan of devolution was marked by a clear contradiction.

She said the federal government should first account for its treatment of Sindh and the promises made to the province.

Saadia Javed said the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway had remained pending for years, while Sindh continued to be ignored in the federal government’s priorities.

She criticised the decision to provide funding for a new Sialkot-Lahore motorway without completing the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway, saying the move raised serious questions about the federal government’s priorities and its alleged double standards.

The Sindh government spokesperson said the poor condition of the vital road link connecting Karachi’s ports with Hyderabad and Sukkur continued to create difficulties for the public, travellers and businesses.

She said that on the one hand, calls for devolution were being raised, while on the other, longstanding infrastructure projects in Sindh were being continuously ignored.

“This attitude of the federal government is further increasing the sense of deprivation in the province,” Saadia Javed said.
