Sindh Government Serving People Through Public-Private Partnerships in Health Sector: CM Murad Ali Shah
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that the provincial government is serving the people in the health sector through successful public-private partnerships, with the provision of quality healthcare to all citizens remaining its top priority.
The chief minister visited the under-construction Hassan Suleman Memorial Hospital, accompanied by his Principal Secretary Agha Wasif. He was received by Javed Suleman, Chairman Higher Education Commission Sindh Professor Tariq Rafi and other officials.
The hospital is being established with the support of the Sindh government and will provide free medical treatment to patients. During his visit, the chief minister inspected different sections, wards and facilities of the hospital.
Secretary Health Tahir Sangi, Executive Director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) Professor Tahir Sagheer, architect Shahid Abdullah and other officials also attended the event.
The chief minister was given a detailed briefing on the Hassan Suleman Memorial Hospital project. He was informed that the concept of the hospital was developed by Pakistani doctors living in the United States and Pakistan, while the project was initiated under the leadership of Dr Javed Suleman.
Malir was selected as the location for the hospital due to a shortage of quality healthcare facilities in the area. The President of Pakistan, the Sindh chief minister and the provincial government extended their support to the project, while the Sindh government provided land for the hospital.
The government has also approved a matching grant for the construction of the hospital.
According to the briefing, the Hassan Suleman Memorial Hospital will have a capacity of 312 beds and will cover a total area of 323,000 square feet. The hospital will be equipped with modern medical facilities, including MRI and CT scan services and advanced cardiac care facilities. Emergency, outpatient, intensive care and coronary care units will also be available.
The total cost of the project has been estimated at $23.5 million. Construction of the hospital began in December 2022, while its inauguration is planned for December 25, 2026.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Murad Ali Shah said the Hassan Suleman Memorial Hospital would provide the people of Malir with high-quality medical treatment and was in line with the Sindh government’s agenda of providing better healthcare facilities.
He said the Sindh government was an important partner in establishing the hospital and providing quality healthcare to all citizens of the province was one of its foremost priorities.
Murad Ali Shah said the Sindh government’s public-private partnership programme had been highly successful, adding that the provincial government was working with private partners to serve the people in the health sector.
“I am eagerly waiting for December when the hospital will be inaugurated and the process of serving the public will begin,” the chief minister said.
He added that a 600-bed hospital had also been initiated in Larkana with the cooperation of Javed Suleman.
