Pakistan Updates Import Data to Address Billions of Dollars in Discrepancies

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan has updated its import data after addressing discrepancies worth billions of dollars to meet the conditions set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
To fulfill the IMF’s requirements, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has reviewed and updated import data on both monthly and annual bases, correcting discrepancies involving billions of dollars.
The changes in income and trade statistics, amounting to as much as $30 billion over a specific period, have had a significant impact on the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) during the period under review.
The PBS has therefore incorporated the revised import figures into the economic data used for various key sectors, bringing the country’s statistical records more in line with updated trade information.
