Iran FM Calls US Pressure Campaigns a Failure
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has responded sarcastically to US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose the harshest-ever sanctions on Iran, declaring that Washington’s previous pressure campaigns had already failed.
According to international media reports, President Trump recently announced plans to launch what he described as the most devastating economic action ever imposed against a country, targeting Iran.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also said that Washington would impose the toughest sanctions in history on Iran and urged countries, including China, to stand with the United States.
Responding on social media platform X, Araghchi recalled that in 2012, the United States had similarly described its sanctions against Iran as the most devastating in history. In a sarcastic response, the Iranian foreign minister wrote a single word: **“Failed.”**
He also referred to the US “maximum pressure” campaign launched eight years ago, describing that policy as another failure.
Araghchi further noted that around five months ago, the United States had demanded Iran’s unconditional surrender, but that effort had also failed.
“The US has now issued another fresh threat — the same old nonsense, only the faces making the threats have changed,” Araghchi said.
He stressed that while the language and faces of US strategies may change, Washington’s attempts to force Iran into submission through pressure are nothing new.
