Polio Virus Detected in Environmental Samples from Six Karachi Districts
KARACHI: Poliovirus has been detected in environmental samples collected from six districts of Karachi, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre for Polio.
The affected districts include Karachi Central, East, Keamari, Malir, South and West, where environmental samples tested positive for poliovirus.
The National Emergency Operations Centre said no poliovirus had been detected in environmental samples from the six Karachi districts during June.
Meanwhile, poliovirus was also detected in an environmental sample from Kashmore district of Sindh in July.
Environmental samples from Chaman, Dera Bugti and Quetta in Balochistan also tested positive for poliovirus.
Similarly, poliovirus was detected in environmental samples from Bannu and Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In Punjab, an environmental sample collected from Rawalpindi in July also tested positive for poliovirus.
