Balochistan’s Stability Is Linked to Political Stability, People Want Peace and Justice: Maulana Abdul Wasey
QUETTA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Balochistan Emir Senator Maulana Abdul Wasey has said that lasting stability in Balochistan is inseparable from political stability, stressing that sustainable development and genuine peace in Pakistan cannot be achieved without addressing the province’s fundamental problems.
In a statement, Maulana Abdul Wasey said ignoring difficult ground realities had been a major reason behind the growing complexity and seriousness of the problems facing Balochistan. He called for the realities to be acknowledged, the root causes of the issues to be identified and serious political and administrative measures to be taken for their permanent resolution.
He said JUI had, from the outset, offered all possible cooperation to the authorities for resolving Balochistan’s problems, restoring peace and rebuilding public trust despite its political reservations and differences.
“Balochistan can no longer afford further experiments, instability, deprivation and loss of human lives,” he said, adding that his party had a deep attachment to the province and regarded its peace as essential for the secure future of coming generations.
Maulana Abdul Wasey said that if external interference or foreign support was involved in any problem, it should be examined seriously. However, he stressed that authorities must also ask whether the people of Balochistan had truly been given a sense of ownership, equal citizenship, justice, security and belonging to the state.
He said merely blaming external factors was not enough and that internal grievances as well as political and administrative weaknesses also needed to be addressed.
The JUI leader expressed particular concern over the deteriorating security situation in Ziarat, which he described as once being one of Balochistan’s and Pakistan’s most peaceful, scenic and popular tourist destinations.
He said people from across the country once visited Ziarat with their families for its natural beauty, peaceful environment and recreational opportunities. However, he added, the area was now witnessing frequent reports of bodies being found, kidnappings and killings, leaving residents fearful and insecure.
Maulana Abdul Wasey questioned the government’s claims regarding the elimination of armed groups, asking who was responsible for the continuing incidents of kidnapping, murder and terror if armed elements had been completely eliminated.
“If armed elements have been eliminated, then who are the killers, who are the kidnappers and who remains beyond the reach of the law?” he asked.
He said these questions were not only being raised by the people of Ziarat but also demanded answers from the entire state machinery.
The JUI leader stressed that Ziarat deserved exceptional attention because of its historic association with the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He expressed regret that the area associated with the Quaid was now facing a serious law and order crisis.
Maulana Abdul Wasey urged the government to move beyond claims and temporary operations and instead prioritize tangible results, accountability and lasting peace.
He said the people of Balochistan no longer wanted promises but demanded peace, justice, security, dignity and a guarantee of a secure future.
