Imran Khan’s Appeals Should Be Heard Immediately Following Medical Reports: All Pakistan Lawyers Action Committee

Quetta: Chairman of the All Pakistan Lawyers Action Committee Ali Ahmed Kurd, former Supreme Court Bar Association presidents Munir A. Malik, Hamid Khan and Abid Zuberi, along with other senior office-bearers of the committee, have called for the immediate hearing of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s appeals following reports about his health.
In a joint statement, the lawyers said there had been serious public concern over reports regarding Imran Khan’s deteriorating health.
They welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision directing the government to ensure Imran Khan’s immediate transfer to Al-Shifa Hospital for timely medical examination and treatment.
The lawyers’ committee described the Supreme Court’s decision as a welcome development and “the first drop of rain” at a time when, according to them, the country’s judicial system was facing serious difficulties following the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments.
The All Pakistan Lawyers Action Committee urged the Supreme Court to take immediate notice of the medical reports being issued by doctors at Al-Shifa Hospital regarding Imran Khan’s treatment.
The committee also called for the immediate hearing of all appeals filed by Imran Khan against his convictions.
It further urged the Supreme Court to at least direct the Islamabad High Court to consider suspending what the lawyers described as “outdated convictions” pending the disposal of the appeals.
The lawyers emphasized that timely judicial action was necessary in view of the concerns surrounding Imran Khan’s health and the medical reports emerging from the hospital.
