Severe Drinking Water Shortage Hits Quetta, Residents Struggle for Basic Supply
QUETTA (Daily Qudrat): A severe shortage of clean drinking water has made life increasingly difficult for residents of Quetta, with several areas reportedly deprived of water for weeks and people forced to rely on private water tankers.
Residents said water supply schemes had effectively failed, while the relevant authorities appeared to be doing little to address the crisis.
“We wait day and night for water, but nothing comes from the taps. We are forced to purchase water tankers at high prices,” a local resident said.
The shortage has also created difficulties for educational institutions, hospitals and markets, according to residents and public and social circles.
They warned that if immediate measures were not taken to restore the water supply, the situation could develop into a serious crisis.
Citizens demanded that the Balochistan government and the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) take urgent steps to ensure a regular supply of clean drinking water.
They also called for strict action against the alleged tanker mafia and measures to prevent residents from being forced to purchase water at inflated prices.
