Mother, Daughter’s Killing in Nushki a Heinous Act Against Humanity, Say Balochistan Women Parliamentarians

QUETTA (Daily Qudrat): Women parliamentarians in Balochistan have strongly condemned the killing of a mother and her daughter in Killi Mengalabad, Nushki, calling it a heinous and inhumane act and saying that those who target women and children cannot claim to be well-wishers of the Baloch people or Balochistan.

Speaking at a press conference at the Civil Secretariat on Sunday, PPP Women Wing Balochistan President and Deputy Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly Ghazala Gola, Adviser for Sports Meena Majeed, Provincial Education Minister Raheela Hameed Durrani and Hadia Nawaz condemned the incident.

Meena Majeed said alleged militants of “Fitna al-Hindustan” had killed a mother and daughter in Killi Mengalabad, leaving Nushki and the entire province in mourning.

She said the deceased, Bibi Hanifa, was a government employee, while her family had previously been affected by floods and their home was rebuilt with the assistance of the Pakistan Army.

“The only fault of the mother and daughter was that they were living peacefully as ordinary citizens,” Majeed said. She questioned what kind of Baloch identity or honour involved entering homes and killing Baloch women, adding that terrorists could not be considered well-wishers of the Baloch people.

Majeed said the alleged militants were targeting not only security forces but also innocent civilians, women and children. She added that the government and security forces were taking action against militants and would defeat elements seeking to disrupt peace in Balochistan.

She urged citizens to help identify terrorist elements and play their role in countering terrorism. She also expressed concern over what she described as the silence of organizations that claim to champion human rights.

Majeed said the deaths of Bibi Hanifa and Hafsa represented a loss for all peaceful and progressive people of Balochistan, adding that the alleged terrorists’ actions had exposed their “ugly face” and required a collective response against terrorism.

Provincial Education Minister Raheela Hameed Durrani also strongly condemned the incident, saying the women were allegedly subjected to violence and killed inside their home.

She said such violence in the 21st century was deeply disturbing and expressed sorrow over the deaths of Bibi Hanifa and Bibi Hafsa. She also criticized what she described as the absence of condemnation from various quarters.

Durrani noted that women are protected under religious principles and international laws even during armed conflicts.

Deputy Speaker Ghazala Gola said the killings of Bibi Hafsa and Bibi Hanifa were extremely tragic and could not be ignored. She vowed that those involved in the killings of women would be brought to justice.

She said parliamentarians would continue raising their voice for women’s rights and the protection of women across the province.
