‘I Will Lead From the Front for Imran Khan’s Release on September 27,’ Says KP CM Sohail Afridi
BANNU (Qudrat Daily): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced a major march towards Islamabad on September 27, saying he himself will lead the protest from the front for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Addressing a public gathering in Bannu, the chief minister encouraged party workers not to be afraid, claiming that more than two million people would take to the streets. He said that once such a large number of people gathered, no one would be able to stop them.
“Do not be afraid. I will stand in front of you, and no one has the strength to open fire on you,” Afridi said, adding that the more powerful an oppressor appeared to be, the more fearful he actually was.
The KP chief minister strongly criticized the federal government, saying that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had previously been made “scapegoats” because, according to him, the people were treated as insignificant and the province was used as an experimental ground.
“This time, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has a ‘rebel government’ that is completely free and autonomous in every decision,” he claimed.
Speaking about law and order and the police force, Afridi said maintaining peace was a collective responsibility. He assured police personnel that he stood firmly behind them and said funds were being provided for the latest weapons required by the police, as well as substantial resources for improving their basic infrastructure.
Comparing the security situation of the past with the present, the chief minister claimed that there had been complete peace in the region during Imran Khan’s government from 2018 to 2022 and that there was no terrorism at the time.
He alleged that the resurgence of violence and terrorism had particularly affected the southern region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially Bannu.
Afridi held the federal government and those who, according to him, had imposed it responsible for the current wave of terrorism and insecurity in the province.
