Pakistan’s Economy Expected to Grow 3.5–4.5% in FY2027: SBP Governor

KARACHI: State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Jameel Ahmad has said that economic activity in the country is gaining momentum, creating greater opportunities for investment and employment.

Addressing participants at an Independence Day ceremony at the State Bank of Pakistan, Jameel Ahmad said economic growth is expected to remain between 3.5% and 4.5% during fiscal year 2027.

He said Independence Day was not merely an occasion for celebration but also an opportunity to remember the sacrifices of the past and renew the commitment to building a prosperous future. The sacrifices of millions of people had given the nation not only a free country but also the responsibility to steer it toward development and prosperity, he added.

The SBP governor said the expectations associated with the State Bank by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah continued to serve as a guiding principle for the institution.

He noted that Pakistan’s economy had made significant progress toward stability over the past year. Effective fiscal and monetary policies, along with improvements in the external accounts, had further strengthened the foundations of the economy, he said.

Jameel Ahmad said inflation in Pakistan stood at 7.1% during FY2026, while economic growth was recorded at 3.7%.

He added that the State Bank remained committed to keeping inflation within its medium-term target range of 5% to 7%.
