PPP Preparing to Approach Court Over Alleged Rigging in Azad Kashmir Elections

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has begun preparations to approach the courts over alleged rigging in the Azad Kashmir elections, with the party saying that negotiations with the government have stalled due to an unsatisfactory response to its concerns.

PPP Information Secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan said the party had presented evidence of alleged electoral irregularities to the government but had not received a satisfactory response.

Speaking to a private television channel, Chan said the PPP had not yet made a final decision on whether to limit its cooperation with the government or oppose government bills. He said the matter would be decided by the party’s parliamentary and central leadership after mutual consultation.

He said the PPP had conveyed its reservations and evidence regarding alleged rigging in the Azad Kashmir elections to the government. However, talks had reached a deadlock because the party was not satisfied with the government’s response, and the PPP was preparing to seek legal remedies.

Chan said the PPP considered negotiations the best way to resolve political disputes, but the government needed to seriously address the party’s concerns instead of merely forming committees.

He added that a final decision regarding government formation in Azad Kashmir would also be taken after consultation with the party’s central leadership.
