Seven Mine Workers Abducted as Armed Men Attack Private Mining Site in Chagai

CHAGAI: Seven employees of a private mining company were allegedly abducted after eight unidentified armed men on motorcycles attacked a mining site in Mahian Kaur, Chagai district, and took away equipment and supplies worth millions of rupees.

According to sources, the incident took place at around 1pm at a private mine located approximately 15 to 18 kilometres west of Chagai town.

The armed men reportedly entered the mining site, held the staff hostage and abducted seven workers. The abducted employees include four workers from Gilgit — Wajahat, Wajid, Shahid and Sabir — and three local workers identified as Ziauddin of Dalbandin, Shah Saleem of Mahian, Chagai, and Saeed Muhammad of Mahian, Chagai.

Sources said the armed men remained at the mining site until around 7pm and took several items with them, including a Zambad vehicle, a 4×4 pickup, more than 20 solar panels, a Zaranj motorcycle, bedding, kitchen equipment, gas cylinders, 2,500 litres of diesel and 1,500 litres of petrol, along with other supplies.

According to representatives of the private mine, the attackers remained at the site for several hours and completed the operation before fleeing with the abducted workers and equipment.

The incident was promptly reported to the relevant authorities. However, the seven abducted workers and the stolen equipment have not yet been recovered.

The local administration has launched efforts to trace the abductees and recover the equipment, while further investigations into the incident are underway.
