If Imran Khan Is Not Allowed to Meet Us, Every Chowk Will Become D-Chowk, Says Sohail Afridi
ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced a series of protests over the health and access to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, warning that if Khan is not allowed to meet his family, doctors and party representatives, protests will be expanded across the country.
Addressing a press conference, Afridi said all PTI parliamentarians would stage a sit-in outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday. On Thursday, they would also go to Adiala Jail with other lawmakers and attempt to meet Imran Khan.
He warned that if the meeting was not allowed despite these measures, the party would call for protests across the country at 10pm on Thursday, with major intersections in every city being turned into “D-Chowks.”
Afridi said the call for the September 27 long march remained unchanged, while the protests before the march were aimed at securing access to Imran Khan and addressing concerns about his health.
He demanded that the Chief Justice issue a decision regarding Khan’s health and allow his family members and personal doctors to meet him and conduct a medical examination.
The KP chief minister said Imran Khan’s health could no longer be ignored and that his family and doctors must be granted access to him.
He also called on the courts to deliver decisions in accordance with the requirements of justice, questioning the direction of the country and its judicial system if judges were to act as instruments of others.
Afridi clarified that Imran Khan’s family had not been consulted when the September 27 long march was initially announced because the family maintained a non-political status.
He said the decision regarding the protests had been taken after consulting the party’s leadership and allied parties, adding that the date of the long march had not been changed.
Afridi reiterated that all parliamentarians would visit Adiala Jail on Thursday and seek a meeting with Imran Khan. If permission was denied, they would stage a sit-in outside the jail.
He said the party leadership wanted clear action regarding Imran Khan’s health, treatment and access for his family members and personal physicians, adding that the current protests were intended to address health concerns and ensure legal and medical access to the PTI founder.
